Love at First Flight: The Finale

It’s time for the finale. Who is going to do something really stupid? Let’s find out.

First, time to wrap up Hawaii. Everyone has said goodbye to the person with whom they’ve been paired and is headed to Los Angeles in the morning, where they may or may not be getting married. What will they decide?

Cut to day 30 in Los Angeles. First up, Jenna and Cale. Jenna wants her rose quartz. Wait, I’m sorry, Jenna is a teacher? How did I not know this? Holy wow. Anyway. Cale says feelings can change and grow. I swear to God, Cale.

Michael is taking a walk down memory lane and smiling while Other Stephanie says she’s opened up and now appreciates the man that he is.

Alma appreciates how kind Mike is but is worried about how he can shut down emotionally. Once he did open up, though, they had a breakthrough. He talks about the ups and downs they’ve had and the emotional stuff they’ve been through.

Ryan says things ended on a good note in Hawaii, but traveling solo back to Los Angeles made him think of everything else standing in their way. OG Stephanie remembers their instant connection.

Each person is taken to an airplane hanger with a little altar set up inside, which is…weird. Then the ladies are taken to a room with wedding garb, rings, all that stuff. It suddenly gets super real for everybody. Alma goes straight for the makeup and champagne, which makes her the best. Mike says that, last night, he thought they’d be better off as friends, but now he is questioning that.

Oh, friends are here! That’s a good idea. Michael isn’t sure he’s seen the whole Other Stephanie yet. She’s all in on him, though and her friend is convinced.

OG Stephanie is trying on a wedding gown. She says that, since Ryan knows where she stands, it’s all on him. Cut to Ryan staring at rings and saying “oh man, this is definitely making me feel some kinda way.” That’s romantic. He came here thinking that this would be the end for them, that they can’t go any further. He hasn’t heard the whole story about a former bad relationship, and he needs to.

Alma is trying on dresses now and saying that Mike checks all the boxes. She says she feels safe with him. Awww. Mike says it’s funny he never asked Alma what kind of ring she liked. He’s going to ask her to marry him!

Jenna is holding dresses up to herself. She says that Cale can offer her “stability,” which is what every bride should say on her wedding day. Cale says he hopes Jenna will meet him halfway, which sounds like he’s thinking about going through with this, which sounds like I’m about to vomit. He’s going to try on a suit anyway, even if I might throw up on it. Jenna says she “might be ready for the M word.” If you can’t even say it, you aren’t.

So, now to the hangar. Cale is at the altar, but not wearing a suit or tux. Jenna shows up in no gown at all, but wearing a veil, which is incredibly mixed signals. She breaks up with Cale. Jenna wishes she had been less aggressive or forthcoming at the beginning. He says she’s beautiful and he will remember all the best parts, and he did try. Then he makes a little joke and gives her a really sweet and appropriate gift. I’m glad they’re going to be friends, she needs good friends. I’m also glad they aren’t dating, they don’t need that. Then she makes an awkward joke about him changing his mind.

On to the other couple I care about. Other Stephanie and Michael. I hope these two decide to date but not rush into marriage. They’re both in normal clothes! She says she appreciates his leadership and that he is what she’s always wanted. Michael says that they haven’t seen each other in real life yet and that, even though he sees a future for them, he can’t propose yet. Christians have to take marriage more seriously than that. This is the most perfect outcome.

OG Stephanie and Ryan. He wants her in his life, she says she’s on cloud nine no matter what, which is patently false. Also, I clearly had the clothes thing wrong. This is just the proposal, they don’t have to just show up dressed for a wedding and hope the other person is, too. That’s what I thought, but then Jenna showed up in a veil and confused me. Jenna was just being weird wearing a veil for a breakup. Anyway, OG says she has changed and grown blah blah. Ryan has never felt this way blah blah. He says he doesn’t know if he can propose right now. She says he is too much in his head and should listen to his heart, which is always the worst advice. He says trust is still an issue, which is a huge problem. She tells him what’s up (she had to try to get a restraining order, etc) and he is shocked that she never told him this stuff. Umm yeah. He wants her to call the ex to say it’s over forever and she says Ryan can call the ex himself. Ryan wants OG to call him herself. She doesn’t have her phone, so Ryan produces his phone and she says she doesn’t need to because she has no feelings for this guy. It goes back and forth for a while with him wanting her to call and her not wanting to call. He’s ready to walk out on her. She finally calls. The producers have clearly programed the guy’s number into Ryan’s phone, or this is Stephanie’s phone. The ex says that he broke up with her and Ryan goes into orbit. “bullet dodged.” Now they’re fighting on the phone and Ryan is like yep, I was right about this whole thing.

Then Stephanie has a meltdown.

Alma and Mike’s turn! Alma says she had a lot of fun trying on dresses and Mike says he really missed her. They talk about how good they’ve been for each other and how they’ve opened up and let down their guard. He doesn’t want to play it safe anymore. Mike reaches in his coat pocked and kneels and she is so excited. He proposes and she says yes, and it’s time to change for their wedding.

And there we have it. Love at First Flight. Oh, I get it. That’s why they’re in a hangar. Flight. OK.
