Fiction Friday 100-Word Challenge: An Aquarium, Maybe?

Here, my friends, is your writing prompt. This one is wide open. Your story could be about the place itself or something that happens inside this place. Or just outside it. Hmm…now that’s an interesting thought, no?

Tell us your best story in 100 words, either in the comments here or at your own web home with a link back to us. You’ve got a good one for us, right? Right! Off you go then!

  1. The movable walk shudders as it rounds another corner, pulling me deeper into a glowing blue corridor. As I near the end, my heart races since I still haven’t seen them. Stepping back, I’m met with a disapproving glare; backwards isn’t allowed. Almost out of the viewing area, I glimpse a gray flash and flick of a fin. I wipe away my tears as I step off the movable walk. I used to hate this aquarium but since it happened, I realize I dearly miss my family and friends. These silly humans are right. Be careful what you wish for.

  2. He was winded and bleeding out, and he knew it. Looking around, all he could see was water and fish. It was quiet.

“There are worse places to die,” he said to no one.

The concrete where he collapsed was cold. The sound of footsteps caught his attention, but he didn’t care to look up. He knew who they belonged to, and what they meant.

“You’ve made a mess,” an unexpected voice said.

    “I had help,” he joked.

He felt a warm hand on his back where he was shot, and the pain disappeared.

“Let’s go home,” his wife said.

  3. Mom walked down the corridor with me. She didn’t hold my hand this time. I was a “big girl” now. I smiled and pointed and tapped on the wall separating me from an underwater kingdom. I played my part, the way I learned from all the other kids at school. Inside though… inside I was hollow.
