Groovy Friday – Happy Birthday, America!

Katri Helena Koistinen, the second-bestselling female soloist in Finland

It’s Friday!

This week’s clip has nothing to do with the founding of the United States aside from the costumes of the backup dancers and even those are less than accurate.  The hemlines on those dresses are positively indecent from an eighteenth century perspective.  But this clip will have to do.  It’s a holiday and I’m entitled to take it easy this week.  I’m not even going to look up info on singer Katri Helena.

Oh very well.

Born in Finland in 1945 as Katri Helena Koistinen, she scored her first hit in 1964 and went on to become the second-bestselling female soloist in Finland.  The bestselling female soloist in Finland?  Madonna.  I guess that makes Katri Helena the bestselling Finnish female soloist in Finland.  Married three times, she’ll be celebrating her 71st birthday this August.

Now I’m going to go celebrate my independence.

Have a groovy weekend!

Harriet Tubman is one of America’s most beloved historical figures but has sadly been largely relegated to just a few facts during Black History Month. This incredible ex-slave, spy, cook, nurse, public speaker and rescuer deserves a story worthy of her stature.

“Minty” – tentatively titled after Tubman’s nickname – is a “reimagining” of Harriet Tubman as an action hero. It is a period piece with a modern flare.
