Groovy Friday – Season’s Groovings

A Groovy Friday holiday classic.

It’s the holiday season and over the past two years we’ve developed traditions here at Groovy Friday, re-run clips we cherish and watch again and again and again but not four times.

First is this clip of The Standells performing “Bony Maronie” from the film Get Yourself a College Girl.  Nothing in that last sentence suggests Christmas, but if you watch the clip, you’ll see why it’s a Groovy Friday holiday classic.

Here’s the link to last year’s post.  There are a lot more clips to explore from this movie.

Next up is “All I Want For Christmas is A Go-Go Girl.”  Not much to explain here.  It’s all pretty straightforward.  All he wants for Christmas is a go-go girl.

That makes a lot more sense than our final clip which we traditionally share on the last Friday before Christmas.  Not this year, though.  I’ve got a new tradition I’ll be springing on you next Friday.  In the meantime, enjoy the insanity of the “Chinese Santa Fab Four.”

WTF, indeed.

This link features the same clip with absolutely no new information.

Have a groovy weekend!

Harriet Tubman is one of America’s most beloved historical figures but has sadly been largely relegated to just a few facts during Black History Month. This incredible ex-slave, spy, cook, nurse, public speaker and rescuer deserves a story worthy of her stature.

“Minty” – tentatively titled after Tubman’s nickname – is a “reimagining” of Harriet Tubman as an action hero. It is a period piece with a modern flare.
