Groovy Friday: Tennessee Groovy Ford

Here he is performing his signature song “Sixteen Tons.” But wait! This isn’t the version that took him to the top of the Pop and Country & Western charts.

It’s Friday with Cousin Ernie!

I love Ernie Ford.  His bass/baritone voice is so sleek.  Absolutely unmistakable.  Here he is performing his signature song “Sixteen Tons.”  But wait!  This isn’t the version that took him to the top of the Pop and Country & Western charts in 1955.  That version is cool, but it isn’t groovy.  This version is.  It comes from the television show “Hollywood Palace” (1964-1970) which we’ll be revisiting in future posts.

Have a groovy weekend!

Harriet Tubman is one of America’s most beloved historical figures but has sadly been largely relegated to just a few facts during Black History Month. This incredible ex-slave, spy, cook, nurse, public speaker and rescuer deserves a story worthy of her stature.

“Minty” – tentatively titled after Tubman’s nickname – is a “reimagining” of Harriet Tubman as an action hero. It is a period piece with a modern flare.
