Groovy Friday (Wednesday) – Hully Gully

There’s a Thanksgiving tradition here at Groovy Friday.

It’s Friday! No, It’s Wednesday.

There’s a Thanksgiving tradition here at Groovy Friday which I explained last year.

At the time, I suggested that I might come up with some info on the clip itself this year.  And so I have.

The adorable blond at the center is Aliki Vougiouklaki, referred to in her own country as a “National Star of Greece”.  Although she plays light and fetching here, she was recognized as a serious actress.  She formed her own theater company at about the same time as this film was made.  She played Moliere and Shakespeare on stage (in Greek) in between dancing the Hully Gully on film.

That’s versatility.

Have a groovy long weekend!

Harriet Tubman is one of America’s most beloved historical figures but has sadly been largely relegated to just a few facts during Black History Month. This incredible ex-slave, spy, cook, nurse, public speaker and rescuer deserves a story worthy of her stature.

“Minty” – tentatively titled after Tubman’s nickname – is a “reimagining” of Harriet Tubman as an action hero. It is a period piece with a modern flare.
