How Many of You Even Remember the Video Game This Movie is Based On?

Most Hollywood films these days are based on existing intellectual property, meaning they’re either remakes or sequels to previous films, film adaptations of books or television shows, or cinematic takes on video or even board games. Here’s one based on a standup arcade game from Bally Midway that came out way back in 1986.

RAMPAGE.

It’s scheduled to come out in 2018.

The movie stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as what looks like a badass zookeeper/helicopter pilot whose albino gorilla bro George gets supersized by some weird object that falls from the sky. George proceeds to go kaiju on Chicago.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan co-stars as Negan apparently. Seriously, watch him in the trailer and tell me he isn’t going to start bashing giant monsters with Lucille.

A giant wolf and a giant reptile round out the cast of the original three person video game. They’ll be called Ralph and Lizzie if the writers stay true to the source material.

I remember playing the game in the dining hall snackbar back in college. As you can see there’s very little difference between the movie and the original game.

They don’t make them like that anymore.
