Phantom Sway

Midtown

Hustling against a mass of humanity on an unlikely 70 degree December day in NYC, it was all about the shadows. The 1pm in this place feels like dusk is about to set in. The people and their dark reflections, the characters dressed as fantasy and the energy that the constant advertising bombards you with reminds you of two things: why people come for the experience and why the rest of us take the backstreets.

Harriet Tubman is one of America’s most beloved historical figures but has sadly been largely relegated to just a few facts during Black History Month. This incredible ex-slave, spy, cook, nurse, public speaker and rescuer deserves a story worthy of her stature.

“Minty” – tentatively titled after Tubman’s nickname – is a “reimagining” of Harriet Tubman as an action hero. It is a period piece with a modern flare.
