Last Friday evening, I met with some very close friends in central Phoenix for cocktails and adult, non-work related conversation. Apart from the DJ occasionally and annoyingly blaring his music, Sidebar offered a fun and relaxing time. Oh! Having to leave my card with the bartender for the Moscow Mule I ordered was a bit off-putting also. On multiple occasions I’ve had this drink, and never had I been asked to leave some sort of “collateral”.

Anywhoo, my original plan was to wear a comfortable and work-appropriate dress all day that would effortlessly transition into a nighttime look. However (comma) when my alarm stirred me from the best sleep I’d had in a while, wearing a dress was the last thing on my mind, so I quickly threw this ensemble together before heading out. Well, everything minus the boyfriend jeans. I wore a pair of grey, high waisted jeans instead.

This navy blue and coral patterned crop top was purchased from Marshall’s about a year or two ago, and honestly Friday night was the second time I’d worn it. When I originally bought it, I didn’t try it on because I was sure a small would fit with no problem. I was wrong. If I stood still with my back as straight as possible, I wouldn’t have to worry about the buttons in the back popping open repeatedly. I remember being so frustrated with myself and also dreading the fact that I’d have to give it away. Obviously, I never did.

Hi, my name is Joia, and I’m an occasional hoarder.

But can you blame me? This top is too unique to just give up, and the fit is better now. Yay! The slight, criss-cross cut out in the back is my favorite detail about this top.

Quick tip: if your top shows a lot of skin, cover up on the bottom. And vice versa. There’s nothing worse than exposing too much all at once.

I found these high-waisted, boyfriend jeans at Forever 21. I was so excited to have these delivered to me and not have to send them back because they were too big or too small. I don’t do a lot of online shopping, but there was a crazy sale that I was not going to pass up. 50% off…and I didn’t have to buy anything at full price to get the discount?? Sign me up, please!

The hole in the right pants leg at the knee was a mishap. I wore these to work shortly after I got them, and ripped it on a drawer desk that I forgot to close. I scratched the heck out of my leg, but the aftermath made me love these jeans even more. Hashtag winning! The only downfall, is there is a huge gap in the back right at the top. My guess to how, is just as good as yours. I normally wear a belt in order to rid of it, but opted to tie a cardigan around it instead. The weather is still pretty cool at night, so I wanted to have something to put on my arms just in case, without it being in the way. It came in handy, because waiters and waitresses were pulling fans out of nowhere by the end of the night.

Booties will always, always be a favorite. I never thought I’d purchase a pair from Target for less than $20! Thank goodness for Cartwheel. If you don’t know what that is, I suggest you find out and download the app ASAP. I received a notification about a one day only, 40% off sale they had back in the fall, and these were one of the three I left with. The double zipper feature was a bit confusing at first, but I really love the faux zipper on the outside of the shoe. I did try them on in a half size larger than normal due to the pointed toe (another tip!) to make sure my toes had enough room. I chose to keep my accessories fairly simple with this grey statement necklace and lone, gold bangle from Charming Charlie’s.

Have fun with your wardrobe and don’t be afraid to mix and match pieces you already have. Keep being creative, shopping smart, and staying true to yourself. Until next time!
