Groovy Friday – Let’s live!

byebyebirdie

It’s Friday! Here’s a classic piece of Broadway groovy.

I’m not going into the history of the 1960 musical “Bye, Bye Birdie.” I’m assuming a degree of familiarity with the material. This clip is from the film version of that musical. It was Ann-Margret’s third film and her first starring role. Note how the film makers use the old trick of dressing their star in a color that will make them pop when they’re on screen. Here, hot pink. Frankly, I can’t imagine a person looking at anyone other than Ann-Margret when she’s on screen. There’s a thing called star quality and she has buttloads of it.

Oops…I meant boatloads.

I love this song; the melody, the arrangement…all of it. Our old friend Herb Alpert did a “let’s have cocktails by the pool” version of it with the Tijuana Brass that’s equally groovy. You can check that out here.

My only other thought is that the guy at 01:39 is probably still telling his grandkids about the time Ann-Margret put his head between her breasts.

His grandkids have no idea who Ann-Margret is.

Have a groovy Friday!
