Groovy Friday … er .. Wednesday – The Hully Gully

It’s Friday!

No.

It’s Wednesday! But this is Thanksgiving week and the weekend starts tonight, right?

Hello. My name is Andre Dupuy and I’m the curator here at Groovy Friday. I usually don’t like to write these posts in the first person, but in order to give you a little history of Groovy Friday, I’ll have to.

Just over five years ago, I began posting off-beat musical videos to my Facebook page on Friday afternoons. They were usually from the 60s (though not always,) they had to have dancing in them and they had to be groovy. Along with the clip, I’d exhort my friends to “have a groovy weekend.” Pretty simple, really. Then a few months ago, a friend of mine who is involved with Phantom Sway asked me to recreate my posts for this site. I thought, “I’m doing them every week anyway and not getting paid for it. Why not?” And so, here we are every week with a custom logo, links and a groovy .gif to boot.

I’m posting this clip today because it has become a Thanksgiving tradition at Groovy Friday. It has absolutely nothing to do with the holiday, but the party atmosphere seems appropriate. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday; no presents, no costumes, no religious commitments, just a day full of family, food and family full of food, followed by the added bonus of a three day weekend! Who can argue with that? Also, it’s the official start of the holiday season, which means soon many of us will be dressed up like the folks in this video, going to parties and perhaps even dancing the Hully Gully. I don’t know what kind of parties you go to, but anything is possible.

Unfortunately, I’m not in the mood to go digging up info on this film (“The Chaufferine”) or the actress who is singing (Aliki Vougiouklaki…isn’t she adorable?)  Maybe next Thanksgiving.

Have a groovy weekend!
