Love at First Flight: Penultimate Episode

Things are crazy after last week and, if you’ll pardon the pun, very much up in the air with our couples. Now, we’re on the last week before the finale, where they decide if they want to get married. Let’s do this.

You know how it works. The couples get a challenge and, if they complete it and work together, they get to stay somewhere great. Otherwise, a cheapo motel or something equally uncool.

See? Sharks.

Ryan and OG Stephanie are first. They’re going cage-free shark diving, and Ryan is scared of sharks. He’s not being a wimp, though, like Stephanie was when she was scared of the reptiles. They get in the water and hold hands and Stephanie is trying to help him stay calm and it’s all very sweet. After the experience, they’re cool with the sharks and with each other.

Jenna and Cale are hanging out on the rocks, which makes sense. Cale made a joke about skinny dipping and Jenna is shocked, shocked I tell you. He’s still hoping they can fall in love and I’m still hoping he’s going to get some damn sense, but I like that he is so positive. Jenna asks him how many times he has wanted to kiss her and he just laughs. I hope that’s because the answer is “obviously zero.” Look, I get it Jenna. You want to reject people before they can reject you. But maybe that means you weren’t ready for this show, and Cale deserves somebody who is. He tells her that he became a lawyer because his sister was assaulted and Jenna shares that she was also assaulted when she was younger and didn’t tell anyone for a long time. Oh, this actually makes some sense now. Also, I should clearly be a psychologist. Or a psychic. Cale still deserves somebody who was ready to be on this show, though.

Mike and Alma are going to rappel down the side of some waterfall cliff thing. Michael slips a little and is very concerned about looking embarrassed in front of Alma even though his arm hurts. They get the job done. Whooo! Then he tells her “I think my arm might be broken.”

OK, fine, back to Jenna and Cale. These two ladies ask them “Are you ready to paddle!?” Jenna pauses before a very fake “Yeah!” Ugh. I don’t get paid enough to watch her, honestly. They have to race a canoe to get the luxury accommodation. Fun fact: this is the state sport of Hawaii. Once they get going, Jenna does admit that she’s “really vibing” it. They win!

Awkward moment. OG Stephanie asks Ryan if he wants to stay in the same suite with her. He says he does. They go to their little private yard thingy and snuggle in the hammock.

Other Stephanie and Michael are at a ranch, where they will be doing survival training

Open that Coconut!

in the jungle. Why do these two always get the worst tasks? First, they have to build a shelter, then open a coconut and, finally, navigate to the Jeep that will take them out of the jungle. Stephanie admits that Michael did the heavy lifting (literally and figuratively), and they’re off to luxury. She says that she finds her hotel room creepy and scary and, if Michael cares about her at all, he will stay in her room with her (in the other bed). Since they’re both committed to saving sex until marriage, he thinks that’s a pretty bad idea. She really doesn’t want him to leave and he agrees to stay. Oh dear.

EDIT:We heard from Steph, and I totally misunderstood what happened in that last scene. The room was creepy, so she was asking him to trade rooms with her, not stay with her in the room. So, when he agreed to stay, he was agreeing to stay in that room alone, not to stay in another bed in the same room. She stayed in what was supposed to be his room, also alone. He manned up, you guys, making his woman feel safe. Sorry for the mistake, Stephanie!

OG Stephanie and Ryan have no such compunction and the next shot is of them waking up together. Come on, editors, you did that on purpose. Juxtaposition of the Stephanies. This Stephanie is trying to figure out what Ryan is thinking, with no luck.

Michael and Other Stephanie are hanging out for the last time before they have to make their decision. They’re definitely feeling each other. He asks if she can see a future with him, and she says “I do.” She asks him pretty much the same, and he thinks he could fall in love with her. These two, I tell ya. I like them.

Time for Ryan and OG Stephanie having a toast on the beach before they say goodbye until the finale. Stephanie wants to keep seeing Ryan, Ryan still cares about Stephanie. She really wants him to let the Vegas thing go, and he does have to let it go if he wants to be with her. He says he still needs to figure out what he wants to do. She says she’d be open to long distance and maaaaaybe even try Michigan. He now sees marriage as a possibility and they’re k-i-s-s-i-n-g.

Jenna and Cale. Honestly, I’m scared even to watch this. He’s so nice that I think he’s falling for her junk. She says she’s emotional that the journey is coming to an end

Make Good Choices, Cale

because she’s had such a great time. Cale says he’s had a good time, too. He’s being glass half-full about this being a once in a lifetime experience. Apparently, Jenna has no regrets, which is weird, because she treated Cale like garbage for a long time. Cale asks Jenna if she thinks they’ll have a relationship when the show is over, and she says that she thinks they both want to. He says “if we’re on the same page…it takes work.” Jenna says she cares about him and “I will be here” when the show is over and Cale says “I appreciate that.” I really hope that means he doesn’t want a relationship.

Time for Alma and Mike to have the talk. This was a really confusing conversation, I honestly have no idea what they’re going to do.

What are any of them going to do? I hope Michael and Other Stephanie stay together. I hope Cale stays Jenna’s supportive friend and stays far away from her as anything else. As for the other two couples? Meh. We will find out next time.
